Bob Marley is one of the most celebrated and beloved figures on the planet and the term reggae is synonymous with the musical legacy he left behind. Digging deeply into that sacred catalog, the dozen remixes of legendary songs on Roots, Rock, Remixed are taking the familiar and cherished and reintroducing it to sound systems worldwide. Roots, Rock, Remixed is slated for release on Quango/rockr music, July 24, 2007.

Featuring a crop of today's hottest producers - including Jimpster (Jamie Odell), Yes King (Rhys Adams & Mark Rae), Trio Elétrico (Boozoo Bajou), Fort Knox Five and DJ Spooky - Roots, Rock, Remixed balances that fine line of being respectful to the inimitable artist Nesta was, and using the bass-heavy, digital technologies available today. Nothing of the gorgeous, analog originals (including classics like One Love, Trenchtown Rock, and Lively Up Yourself) is lost in translation.

While some bootleg remixes of these songs exist, this is the first remix album to receive a certified blessing from the Marley family and Chris Blackwell, himself, who stated, "they retained the songs and the spirit of the original Wailers' recordings and creates a great dance party record."

"We thought there was a lack of quality Bob Marley remixes for the underground," says David Hargis, co-producer and VP of A&R at rockr music, which spearheaded this project. "There have been a few high profile, mass market projects, but we wanted to present something for dance club audiences. There's a lot of warmth and humanity in these songs. None sound too electronic or far from the analog originals. Everyone who worked on this project had deep respect for the music."

Yet, those drum beats and bass lines are completely new - the studio refurbishing of skilled hands and ears. Cordovan's hip-hop slick-kick adds punch to the sing-along One Love, while Afrodisiac Sound System takes Soul Shakedown Party from ghetto blaster to mega club experience. Jimpster's excellent retelling of 400 Years, considered crucial in the Peter Tosh library, makes this song of rebellion available for the four-on-the-floor audience. Through and through, the Wailers shine in every moment.

"We're honored to work with such an important body of music," says Jeff Daniel, the album's co-producer and rockr music's chief. "Marley's sound was like no other and his indelible stamp can be heard all through these great new remixes. We took great care not to disrespect his legend."

"There's a really nice balance between those that stick to the roots, and the ones that create their own interpretations," says Bruno Guez, President of Quango Records. Adding to the sentiment, Hargis continues, "Some of the remixers stuck with the familiar song structure and layered modern elements into them, while others took samples of the originals and transformed them into something completely new. It was often astounding how creative these DJs & producers were."

"These are many of the seed songs for Bob," Hargis concludes. "He went back through his catalog and updated many of them for Island later in his career. In a sense, we're doing the same thing with these remixes. There are a lot of special songs here."

Armand Van Helden's latest album Ghettoblaster as the name suggests will take you on a ride back to the roots of dance music. Says Armand, "On this album I was going for a retro throwback 1985-89 soul up-tempo urban type sound. Chicago meets Miami meets New York City kind of thing. Or to put it differently, house meets freestyle meets hip-house meets club meets new wave."

Armand Van Helden seems to want people to remember, or attempt to experience, what it was like before "underground" dance music became a mainstream kind of thing; tie-ing together all of the attempts at retro sound that has been pumping out of the clubs lately. "The snare sounds Prince used, the keyboards from Expose and those old 808 drums, I've noticed them coming back. I keep my ear to the street."

"I’m not fascinated by intelligence, I don’t get a kick out of minimal techno. I don’t want my music to be intelligent. I like making sex records." Chicago-based S&S Records have brought together the legends of House Music to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the soulful genre embraced and sampled the world over. The Chicago LP is a two disc, two DVD set featuring original music from Grammy-winning and nominated producers, remixers, artists and DJ's. The record will be released is schedulued forlate Spring.

The Chicago LP is the brainchild of S&S Records' GRAMMY-nominated remixer, producer, DJ, House Music legend Steve "Silk" Hurley along with global DJ, producer, remixer Shannon "DJ Skip" Syas. The record is a musical journey and history of all music Chicago, featuring the city's finest; while the companion DVD is a personal history of those making House Music.

Hurley has produced and remixed records for major artists in the urban music world including Chaka Khan, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Bob Marley, Ann Nesby, and Prince. His OLD SKOOL /NEW SKOOL REMIX on the nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, is broadcast every Tuesday and Thursday on 128 stations across the US.

Special marketing and promotional events surrounding the release of The Chicago LP will be held in major markets and feature many of the artists on the record. There will be a special event in the home of House music, Chicago, in late June. The "Chicago is in The House" tour will be announced in the near future.

Music: Deniece Williams - Love, Niecy Style

Deniece Williams will forever be one of the great all-time R&B divas. Processing an infectious, angelic and soulful honey -coated voice with an awe-inspiring range, Deniece Williams set the bar high for R&B singers back in the 70s and to this day her influence can be heard on everyone from Mariah Carey to Beyoncé. Her songs have been sampled by dozens of artists including Will Smith and Master P. Deniece's pure, rich and spine-tingling vocal quality, along with her impeccable diction and ability to honestly connect with any song has resulted in a vast catalog of hits. Some of her timeless anthems include Silly, Too Much, Too Little, Too Late ( No. 1 pop and R&B duet with Johnny Mathis), Let's Hear It For The Boy (the million-selling pop/soul chart-topper from the movie Footloose), It's Gonna Take A Miracle, Free (from the gold album This Is Niecy) and Black Butterfly.

In recent years the chanteuse has primarily been recording gospel records but on April 24, 2007 Shanachie Entertainment will release Deniece Williams' highly anticipated return to R&B Love, Niecy Style produced by renowned Philly soul producer Bobby Eli. Deniece's label debut will mark her first major return to R&B in over a decade. For this momentous occasion Deniece called upon some of the artists who have been instrumental throughout her career: Stevie Wonder, George Duke and Philip Bailey.

Indeed, a songbird with a dynamic range, a distinctive sound and a true gift for lyrical interpretation, Deniece has long enjoyed a place in the hearts of music buyers who embraced her through a rich legacy of close to 30 charted singles and a dozen best-selling albums. Her career also includes 4 Grammies and an extensive list of credits including 16 Grammy nominations, 3 Stellar Awards, an American Music Award and an Oscar nomination.

As Deniece reflects "I wasn't really thinking about making a new record until a mutual friend put me in touch with Bobby, who I knew from the recording sessions I did with Thom Bell in the early '80s. Bobby talked to me about the idea of doing a project of songs that I've always loved. I thought it was a great way to honor artists like Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway and Gwen Guthrie and what their music has meant to me. When people listen to this project, I hope it will take them back down memory lane as well as create new memories for those who may not be familiar with all the songs on the album."

Within weeks of agreeing to Love, Niecey Style, they began selecting songs. "There were so many songs I had been carrying around forever, humming them, singing them and never thinking I would be recording them!" she declares. "By the time we finished, I felt we had done what we set out to do." For Eli, working with Deniece was "a pure pleasure. She's a producer's dream, a very special artist and someone I always wanted to work with from being on the Thom Bell sessions with her."

Love, Niecey Style is particularly special, given the presence of three distinguished music men who have played an integral role in Deniece's career at different times: icon Stevie Wonder (with whom Deniece got her first gig as a member of his touring backup vocal group Wonderlove in 1972); super producer, songwriter and artist in his own right, George Duke (who produced 1984's Grammy-winning "Let's Hear It For The Boy"); and renowned vocalist Philip Bailey, of Earth, Wind & Fire, with whom Deniece was associated by virtue of working with EW&F's Maurice White and Kalimba Productions from 1976 to 1982.

What distinguishes Niecy's new CD from other albums of R&B 'cover' tunes is the range of her choices, starting with the 1963 Baby Washington chestnut That's How Heartaches Are Made through to Donny Hathaway's eternal Someday We'll All Be Free and on to Luther Vandross' first solo smash, Never Too Much. For good measure, Deniece re-recorded her own Cause You Love Me Baby, a staple in her repertoire since the track was included in her 1976 Columbia debut album as well as cutting a brand new song, The Only Thing I'm Missing Is You.

"I'd been wanting to record That's How Heartaches Are Made for years. I was thirteen when I first heard Baby Washington sing this song. It touched my heart because at the time, I was in love with this boy but he didn't love me the same way! When we started recording the song, I could hear Stevie (Wonder) playing harmonica on it. 'Can you come down?' I asked and he was gracious enough to play on the track. It turned out beautifully. Love's Holiday has always been one of my favorite EW&F songs. Then having my dearest friend Philip Bailey sing on it…it doesn't get any better than that!"

This Time I'll Be Sweeter (previously cut by both Angela Bofill and Roberta Flack, one of the many artists whose recordings - including Minnie Riperton and Esther Phillips - benefited from her work as a session singer in the '70s) is a tribute to a longtime friend: "The song was written by the late Gwen Guthrie who we lost to breast cancer. Gwen used to sing with me, Lani Groves and Patti Austin - we were in the same circle of background singers when I lived in New York and I remember when she wrote the song. I always wanted to do it and it's my way of honoring Gwen."

Deniece has been busier than ever, recording a children's CD, Lullabies To Dreamland, appearing in the London cast of the pioneering musical Mama I Want To Sing, producing and hosting her own radio program, The Deniece Williams Show on BBC Radio for almost ten years. Purposely devoting much of her time to raising her four sons, she says she made a conscious choice to limit her touring activities: "I've been doing maybe ten concerts a year and in recent years, I've really got into writing theater pieces and developing film scripts with my older sons. I felt it was time to test myself in other creative ways. Now with my children grown, it's time for mom to be out there again! I chose to stay at home and did only 10% of what I could have done. Vocally, I think I'm stronger than I've ever been and it's time to get out there and do it. I've been blessed with a fantastic audience and I'm always humbled by that. My audience reminds me that this is what I'm supposed to be doing!"

The two beautiful daughters of renowned Run DMC rapper/reality show star/author/owner of Run Athletics Footwear, Rev. Run, will introduce their own entry into the footwear arena, with the launch of Pastry Footwear. The initial line to debut on March 23rd is The Cake Collection, an offering of colorful, mid-priced athletic-inspired shoes designed for stylish young ladies, carrying tasty names such as Chocolate Mousse (brown with pink highlights), Strawberry Shortcake (pink with white highlights), Red Velvet (red with white highlights) and Sprinkles (white with small multi-colored dots). Each shoe will have a tube of lipgloss attached to it, with its scent/color coordinated to the shoe's theme. The footwear will be packaged in boxes bound with satin ribbon, a la a pastry purchase. They will initially debut via Underground Station stores and website.

Vanessa (23) and Angela Simmons (19), known to television viewers from their appearances on their father Rev. Run's wildly popular MTV reality series, Run's House, are intelligent and ambitious ladies, who collaborated in the design of their footwear line. Vanessa is the oldest child in the Simmons family; she's enrolled at St. John's University, with a Business Communication major, and is due to graduate in the fall. A Ford model and aspiring actress, Vanessa was recently featured in a national Verizon commercial, and was named one of Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" for 2006. Angela is a fashionista, and attends the prestigious Fashion Institute of Technology. She appears in rapper Bow Wow's Shortie Like Mine video and also recently launched a new teen magazine called Angela's RunDown, which covers music, fashion and style. The siblings, along with their father, mom Justine, and three younger brothers JoJo, Diggy and Russy, will once again light up TV screens with the season premiere of Run's House on MTV in the spring. Viewers will not only witness the birth of Pastry Footwear, they'll see Vanessa and Angela demonstrate their baking skills in the forthcoming season.

TV: Wifey

VH1 and BET are partnering on a one-hour pilot for the ensemble drama Wifey, set in the world of hip hop. Under this unique arrangement, the eventual series would premiere simultaneously on both networks. Written and executive produced by Michael Elliot, the pilot will be directed by BET President of Entertainment Reginald Hudlin. The executive producers include Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere and Dedra Tate for Flavor Unit, Michael Hirschorn and Maggie Malina for VH1, and Hudlin and Byron Phillips for BET.

Wifey is centered on the newly-widowed wife of a hip-hop mogul who must reassemble her life as she takes over her late husband's record label. Once there, she discovers that her family's fortunes were built upon lies and crimes that now threaten to destroy everything. With the help of two female friends, they take on the male-dominated world of hip-hop.

"The premise behind Wifey' has tremendous promise and fits perfectly into VH1's unique ability to tell stories about music and pop culture," said Brian Graden, President, Entertainment, MTV Networks and President, LOGO. "This pilot marks the first time that VH1 has partnered with another network in such a way, so we're eager to explore all of the ideas and possibilities that will develop by teaming up with Reginald Hudlin and our friends at BET now and in the future.

"This project represents a first on several levels: BET has never jointly developed or produced a program with any other network, the premiere/revenue structure is unique, and I imagine it's the first time that a network head has directed a pilot," says Hudlin, whose last directing gig was the pilot for Everybody Hates Chris, just a few months before he joined BET. Hudlin also helmed such box office classics as House Party, Boomerang, and the animated film BeBe's Kids.

"Byron Phillips and I loved the show the minute we read the script," Hudlin added, and that, given "a common sensibility" with VH1's Hirschorn and Malina, he sees the project as "the first of many together."

Queen Latifah (a.k.a. Dana Owens), one of the project's executive producers, echoes Hudlin's enthusiasm.

"I've always wanted to do a series like this. My first business was the music business, so doing this show with the music networks VH1 and BET about the music industry is exciting for me and my partner Shakim," stated Latifah. "It's going to be a fun show."

DVD: Kim Kardashian Superstar

Vivid Entertainment, the world's leading adult film studio, paid $1-million to acquire rights to a video tape featuring the sexual exploits of raven-haired Hollywood socialite Kim Kardashian and her then boyfriend, hip hop star Ray J.

The company said the DVD titled Kim Kardashian Superstar"will be in stores February 28, 2007. It will also be available online on the same day at www.vivid.com or www.kimksuperstar.com and will include additional footage not on the DVD.

Vivid co-chairman Steven Hirsch said the company obtained the video from a third party but did not identify the person or entity. "We are comfortable that we have the legal right to distribute this video, despite what others may say," says Mr. Hirsch.

"It has over 30-minutes of explicit sex that fans of erotica will find very appealing featuring two young and glamorous high profile celebrities. Apparently, the video was shot by Ray J about three years ago when he and Kim were in a relationship. The production is crystal clear and viewers will definitely get their money's worth."

Ms. Kardashian, 26, was reported to have dated Ray J for about three years. She is a fashion retailer who co-owns the popular store Dash in Calabasas with her two sisters Kourtney and Khloe. She is the daughter of the late attorney Robert Kardashian, who defended O.J. Simpson in his murder trial.

Ray J, 26, began his career as a child actor playing the role of Dorian Long on Moesha, the popular UPN-TV series. Over the years his TV credits have included hosting of the BET shows 106 & Park and BET Countdown plus playing the role of D-Mack on the UPN-TV show One On One. At age 14 he added singing to his talents. He is a best-selling independent hip-hop artist and his most recent hit is One Wish with the Knockout Entertainment label. In addition to past girlfriends have included Lil' Kim and Whitney Houston.

Music: Vesta - Distant Lover

R&B legend Vesta returns to the spotlight this week with her Shanachie debut Distant Lover on which she reinvents timeless soul songs from the likes of Deniece Williams, Sade, Marvin Gaye, Babyface, The Spinners and others.

Vesta's new CD Distant Lover exemplifies the word 'classic' on a number of levels. Not only is her Shanachie debut a sampling of some of the greatest R&B 'classics' but it is a sublime example of how a singer can rework a song when they posses an innate ability to personalize and take chances with a composition. Distant Lover is a refreshing exploration of R&B gems that reveal Vesta's personal connection to each song. Her intensely rich, earthy and soulful voice combined with her intelligent, thoughtful and often playful phrasing drive home the lyrics of any song she sings. The upbeat and charming singer shares, "I don't think people will expect to hear me sing all the different styles featured on Distant Lover. Distant Lover is a thrilling glimpse into the singer's personality and creative genius as a song stylist. Her renditions of Whip Appeal (Babyface) and If You Want Me To Stay (Sly Stone & The Family Stone) , show off her playful and comedic side. Vesta states, "I had a lot of fun with Sly's song and got to show off my more stank funky side!" Vesta equally enjoyed recording the Bill Withers hit Use Me, a song she frequently performs in concert. "This song has a lot to do with some of the experiences I have had," says Vesta. "I have run into a lot of severe vultures in the business and in relationships." Vesta also calls upon songs from her youth on like the Spinners staple Could It Be I'm Falling in Love and the title track, which was a hit for Marvin Gaye. Vesta recalls "In my youth, I remember sitting in my living room and listening to 'Distant Lover' over and over again. Growing up it was one of my favorite songs. I guess I was lonely and the song just spoke to me."

While most of the tracks on Distant Lover are classics recorded by men, Vesta highlights three songs sung by women for whom she holds deep admiration: Deniece Williams, Sade and Syreeta Wright. Vesta remakes Deniece Williams' smash hit Free and says "Deniece Williams is an amazing vocalist and person. She happens to be someone who is as sweet as she sounds!" Sade's No Ordinary Love is a song that Vesta fell in love with the first time she heard it. She shares, "There is a wonderful mood to Sade's writing. She stands alone in her genre." Vesta and singer Issac Clemon, perform a memorable version of With You I'm Born Again, which was sung by Syreeta and the late Billy Preston. The singer confides, "I had the pleasure of spending time with Syreeta at her home and she was such wonderful person. When the idea of a duet came up, I knew 'Born Again' was the right song. With the passing of Billy Preston, it was heavy on my heart. He was a sweetheart and a killer piano player and you could almost forget how well he sang until you heard him singing. I called upon Syreeta in my minds eye when we were recording this song. Hopefully she came and visited. Maybe that beautiful smile from heaven blessed us with her essence."

As much as Vesta enjoyed recording the repertoire on Distant Lover, she equally enjoyed collaborating with the personnel on the CD which includes saxophonists Kim Waters and Marty Q, guitarists Derrick "Hot Sauce" Cummings, Randy Bowland, Rhon Lawrence and Wayne Bruce. Producer Chris "Big Dog" Davis, who Vesta affectionately refers to as "Muscle," plays all the additional instruments heard on the CD. "Recording this music with 'Muscle' was just magical," says Vesta. "Creative energies are powerful and sometime stubborn but this was such a beautiful experience."

With the release of Distant Lover, Vesta is sure to delight and surprise old fans and garner new ones with her refreshing takes on timeless classics. Vesta concludes, "I hope that my love for this music and the musicians and composers who wrote and sang them comes through."

Logo, announced that it plans to bring Noah's Arc, its hit flagship series about four African American gay friends in Los Angeles to the silver screen in 2008 as Logo's first original theatrical film.

Noah's Arc will join Sex and the City, Star Trek and The Simpsons as yet another fan-driven series finding a home at the multiplex, opening the door to greater storytelling depth, expanded creative opportunities and new audiences. Currently in development, the film is expected to pick up after the show's second season cliffhanger finale and continue with an even bolder and provocative storyline. The film will leave the door open for sequels, additional television seasons and specials. The series is created by and executive produced by Patrik-Ian Polk and his Tall Skinny Black Boy Productions.

"Noah's Arc has one of the most intensely loyal fan bases in television and we're thrilled to harness the power of film to let Patrik-Ian Polk continue the story he has so skillfully woven," said Brian Graden, President, Entertainment, MTV Networks Music Group, and President, Logo. Logo's most popular series, season one of Noah's Arc premiered in October 2005, just months after the launch of the network and season two premiered in August 2006. The show, which became the first television series about LGBT people of color, follows the lives and loves of four African-American gay men looking for love and signs of intelligent life in Los Angeles: Noah (Darryl Stephens), Chance (Doug Spearman), Alex (Rodney Chester) and Ricky (Christian Vincent).

"I began this series as a straight-to-DVD project, and Logo gave us a home as its flagship scripted series. And now we're taking it to the big screen!" said Polk. Polk is expected to share producing duties on the Noah's Arc film with series co-executive producer Carol Ann Shine. He made his feature film debut with the independent feature Punks, which premiered at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival and went on to receive an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Lowbudget Feature.

New Orleans mogul rapper Master P. has announced his own reality show America's Next Hip-Hop Stars, which will offer the next big rapper and group a $50,000 recording dealon the New No Limit Records.

According to Master P., born Percy Miller, twelve solo artists and six groups will perform various Hip-Hop songs to be critiqued by a panel of celebrity judges, which includes Paul Wall, Free formely of 106 & Park, Snoop Dogg and Master P.'s son, Romeo.

Master P. will serve as America's Next Hip-Hop Stars' host and a guest celebrity dj will be featured each week, along with a performance by a well known artistor group.

While the show does not have a home on the small screen as of press time, Master P. said negotiations are underway to launch the show on a major network or a cable/pay per view channel.

Damn Star! Power 105 radio host Star gets fired

Radio host Star, of Power 105's The Star and Buc Wild Morning Show, was terminated Wednesday following a news conference that blasted him for broadcasting sexual remarks about a rival host's 4-year-old daughter.

In recent broadcasts, Star threatened to track down his rival's daughter, offered money to anyone who would tell him where she attended school and repeatedly described the degrading sexual acts he wanted to perform on her. He also claimed to carry a gun.

"Where does this kid go to school? I got 500 bucks for that information," Star said. "Oh, yes, I'll come for your kids."

It was the latest salvo in the ongoing feud between New York City's two biggest hip-hop stations, Power 105 (WWPR/105.1 FM) and Hot 97 (WQHT/97.1 FM). Star, whose real name is Troi Torain, once worked at Hot 97, where his rival DJ Envy, born Raashaun Casey, is employed.

Star, who calls himself The Hater, has been in trouble before. In his Hot 97 days, he enraged fans of the singer Aaliyah by spoofing the plane crash that killed her. Last year, he drew fire after calling an Indian woman as a filthy rat-eater while doing a syndicated show on several Clear Channel stations.

Star's latest comments went largely unnoticed until Wednesday, when city council member John Liu (D-Flushing) and others arranged a last-minute news conference to call for Star's dismissal from the station, which is owned by Clear Channel.

Liu played a CD recording of Star's comments, which included sexually degrading remarks and racist slurs directed at DJ Envy's wife, Gia Casey, who is of Asian descent. Casey, who stood nearby, began crying part way through the playback.

"I'm wondering what it will take for some measure to be taken," she said. "Do I have to go down to the morgue and identify my child's body before Clear Channel says, 'You know what, maybe they've gone a little too far?'"

Her husband did not attend the conference.

Shortly after the news conference Clear Channel suspended Star pending and investigation, but hours later the company released this statement: "Power 105 finds recent remarks broadcast by Troi Torain of the Star & Buc Wild Morning Show to be wholly unacceptable. As of late this afternoon, he is no longer with Power 105.1 or Clear Channel Radio. We sincerely apologize to those who may have been offended by his remarks."

Liu and his fellow councilmen have sent a letter to the Manhattan district attorney requesting an investigation into the broadcasts. They say they have also already contacted the Federal Communications Commission and police in New York and New Jersey, where the Caseys live. Liu says Casey's daughter's school has already instituted additional security measures.

"You can't broadcast threats like this," Liu says. "And these are real threats.

Guru, of the duo Gangstarr, is prepping the second release on his 7 Grand label, entitled Jazzmatazz Vol. 4.

The new album follows up the mildly successful 2006 release, Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures, which enjoyed heavy spins on New York's Hot 97 radio station with the album's second single, "Hood Dreamin'," and was hailed by such media outlets as The Source and the NY Post, among others.

Black Rob Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison

Bad Boy recording artist Black Rob was sentenced to seven years in prison for grand larceny. After being convicted of a 2004 robbery of a hotel room, the rapper was supposed to turn himself in on January 24 to serve a two-to-six year sentence. Upon missing the date, he became a fugitive, but was finally picked up on February 24. Because he fled, Rob was given the maximum sentence of seven years.

Padlocked: NYPD Shuts Down 5 Manhattan Nightclubs

The music stopped at five Manhattan nightclubs Friday night when they were shut down.The closures were part of a nine-month New York Police Department undercover narcotics investigation. Detectives made the rounds just before midnight Friday and ordered the clubs to close immediately.

The clubs, located within blocks of each other, include View on Eighth Avenue, Club Deep (operating as Krash) on West 22nd Street, Avalon on West 20th Street, Splash on West 17th Street were all closed because of the sale of illegal drugs including cocaine, heroin, marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy. Spirit on West 27th Street was also shut down for the sale of illegal drugs, and several incidents of assault and serving alcohol to minors.

Two other clubs were issued restraining orders. Undercover police observed the sale of illegal drugs and prostitution at Club Speed on West 39th. Police say illegal drugs were also being sold at Steel Gym on East 23rd Street. Police say those clubs can remain open as long as they stop the illegal activity, but the clubs that were shut down will stay closed indefinitely.

Hearings will be held later to see if the establishments should lose their club and liquor licenses.

Discovered by Jermanie Jackson, the group named for their shared surname, which comprised of siblings El, Mark, Randy and Bunny. After several years of grooming from Motown's A&R department, the group's career was launched via the debut album The DeBarges (1981). Their first release was a commercial disappointment. James was later added for the second release All This Love and the name changed to DeBarge.

Music: Loose Ends - The Best of Loose Ends

One of the top British dance and urban contemporary trios in the early '80s, Loose Ends formed in London. They were originally called Loose End, included Jane Eugene, Steve Nichol and Carl McIntosh. Virgin UK signed them in 1982. By 1983 the group changed its name to Loose Ends and signed with Virgin/MCA in America in 1984. Their single Hanging on a String (Contemplating) topped the R&B charts in 1985, and they repeated that achievement in 1986 with Slow Down. Their last hit was Watching You in 1988, which reached number two. The group shuffled its lineup in 1990 for the release Look How Long of with McIntosh was joined by Linda Carriere and Sunay Suleyman.

DVD: Lil Jon's Vivid Vegas Party -- His First Adult Movie

Famous hip hop artist Lil Jon was involved in every detail of Lil Jon's Vivid Vegas Party, from coaching the actresses in their fine art to writing a sensual score to accentuate the storyline. The DVD of the movie goes on sale in explicit and non-explicit versions in video stores and by mail order nationwide now.

Lil Jon's Vivid Vegas Party is the first of two movies he will do with Vivid Entertainment, and in it the King of Crunk shows he can get down with the XXX starlets.

As the on-screen host of the movie, the multi-platinum rapper shows he had a very direct role in its direction. Although his role is billed as a "non-sex" performance, at one point he holds one of the actresses in his arms as she is being pleasured by another actress.

In the opening scene, Lil Jon tells viewers, "We're going to show you how we party. We'll show you how we get down and how freaky wild we get." He then climbs out of his limo as he arrives at the famous AVN Awards ceremony in Las Vegas, which has been dubbed the "'Oscars of adult" and proceeds to get very friendly with the sultry adult stars in attendance.

For the next two hours the movie directed by C-Mizzle and Shy-Dawg with help from Mr. Jon, does just that. At times it literally gets steamy, when the camera follows a couple into the shower to record a sizzling sex scene. Throughout the film Lil Jon's driving musical score accentuates the sexual action.

Lil Jon was on set throughout the production, which took place in Vegas hotel rooms as well as on studio sets. He pops up throughout the film during its many intimate scenes and at one point exclaims, "I love my job!" He interacts frequently with the performers, who include former Vivid contract actresses Mercedez and Lexie Marie, Angel Eyes, Ayana, Fire and Cherokee. Male performers who make appearances include the award-winning African American adult actor Mr. Marcus, Brian Pumper and Tony Gunn.

His brother admits Jacko's 'thing for young children'

LOS ANGELES - Jermaine Jackson feared his kid brother Michael might be guilty of child molestation, but backed him at trial because he thought the pop star would commit suicide in prison, according to a bombshell book proposal obtained by the Daily News.

In a tell-all outline shopped to publishers just weeks after Michael's arrest in November 2003, Jermaine described the Pop King as a sometimes out-of-control drug and booze abuser with a calculating mean streak and "a thing for young children."

The eight-page proposal for Legacy: Surviving the Best and the Worst, lists Michael Jackson's preferred substances as Vicodin, Demerol, Codeine, Percocet, Cocaine, Jack Daniels &Wine.

"Does he really know what he does with these kids?" Jermaine wondered.

"I don't want to tell you my brother's innocent. I am not certain that he is," Jermaine said in the tome-teaser drafted by author Stacy Brown, who co-authored Michael Jackson: The Man Behind the Mask with the singer's former publicist, Bob Jones.

But Jermaine's still-unpublished tale is the ultimate insider look at the troubled star.

He admits that the family has protected Jacko's image and says that Jackson also cheats, lies and even changed the color of his skin.

Even the pop star's behavior with his own nephews has left his family "shaken," according to Jermaine. He recounts the family coming together after the death of brother Tito's ex-wife in the mid 1990s and finding Michael sitting on a bed with Tito's young sons and holding them in a disturbing manner.

Jermaine also dished about the singer's bizarre behavior shortly before he surrendered to authorities to face charges in November 2003.

Holed up in a Las Vegas hotel room, Michael calmly watched a Pinocchio DVD with his three children in his lap, but he later flew into a rage, trashing the room and breaking every glass, lamp and dish in it.

The protective big brother vowed to help Michael beat the rap because "Michael couldn't survive one day in prison ... He'd commit suicide."

Other bombshell teasers in Jermaine's outline include:

Michael hates Jews because he thinks Hollywood moguls Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen stole the idea for Dreamworks studio, including the boy-on-the moon logo, from him.

"But the Jews are the powerful ones and they have done a lot to put my brother in his place ... just another n-----."

That a devious and calculating Michael squashed his brothers' solo musical careers.

That during the Jackson 5 days, Michael's brothers feared he was gay. The brothers met lots of women while touring and all eventually fell in love. "But Michael, well, he wasn't interested. We used to quietly say that we couldn't have a gay brother."

But the family stood behind Michael despite pain, doubts and misgivings, unwilling to give up on "our little brother."

Jermaine: Michael 'bought' his kids

Michael Jackson's two older children by ex-wife Debbie Rowe were fathered by a "sperm donor" - not the "natural way" as the pop star has insisted for years, according to his brother Jermaine's 2003 bombshell book proposal.
"My brother purchased children," Jermaine, 51, says in an outline for his never-published tell-all titled Legacy: Surviving the Best and the Worst.

Rowe, the mother of Prince Michael I, who is 9, and Paris, who is almost 8, was paid "several million dollars" to carry the artificially inseminated babies.

"It is like a sanctioned black market," Jermaine said.

Jermaine cattily referred to Rowe as a woman "nobody would ever look twice at" and said the only reason Michael married her was to appease his Muslim pals who do not approve of out-of wedlock pregnancies.

Jermaine offered no explanation for how Michael acquired his third child, 4-year-old Prince Michael II (nicknamed Blanket), whose mother has never been identified.

When Rowe and Jackson divorced in 1999, she signed a confidentiality agreement that barred her from ever discussing the children's "paternity, Michael's mental or physical condition, purported drug use, sexual behavior," according to a 2005 court document.

Rowe is currently battling Michael Jackson for access to her children. She previously surrendered her parental rights in 2001, but won them back in 2004 when a court found improper procedures were followed in the first action. An appellate court recently backed Rowe's parental rights, too. Now a judge will decide what's best for the kids.

It's been a very sad few days period for music... after Jay Dee's passing, don-e's myspace page is reporting the passing of UK soul singer Lynden David Hall... after a two year battle with cancer. The London born singer succumbed to Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Feb 14.

If you didn't know him please check his three LP's (Medicine 4 My Pain, The Other Side & In Between Jobs) and his guest appearence in the movie Love Actually. In a successful career, Hall released three albums and won the Best Newcomer Award at the 1998 Music of Black Origin (MOBO) awards.

Hendryx: LaBelle Reunion In The Works

Nona Hendryx, one-third of the pop-soul act LaBelle, is hard at work on her first new music in 10 years, including a planned reunion album with LaBelle members Patti LaBelle and Sarah Dash. Hendryx says the trio has laid out plans to record this year and is looking to release a project in 2007. Meanwhile, new LaBelle material will appear in the form of two songs featured in the Cataland Films/Code Black Entertainment film Preaching to the Choir. Due April 14 in U.S. theaters, the film premiered in October at the Chicago International Film Festival. A label for the soundtrack has yet to be determined.

The movie revolves around fraternal twins who part ways when one chooses a career in ministry while the other seeks hip-hop fame. Patti LaBelle stars as a choir director and also performs three new songs composed by Hendryx. "The title song is the reunion song by Patti, Sarah and I, and that will be in the film's credits and also in the trailer," Hendryx tells Billboard.com. "We also did a song called Dear Rosa as a tribute to Rosa Parks. Those two songs are sort of like our start."

Hendryx says her label, Rhythmbank Entertainment, will also play a role in the reunion album. Most of her projects are funneled through the company, which she formed two years ago with partner Bobby Banks. The roster currently includes singer/songwriter David Ryan Harris and 10-year-old gospel singer Najiyah. As for Hendryx's solo project, the singer is looking to add more hip-hop components to the album and has reached out to several writers and producers, including M-1 of dead prez and Rahzel of The Roots. But Hendryx insists she plans to stick to her pop-rock style. "I like that sort of young, street, edgy element that they bring to my more rock, melodic, song-structured creativity," she says. "It's about making that blend between R&B-rock music and making songs rather than just beats with flow on top. I'm looking to come up with classic songs."

Hendryx recently composed new music for the soundtrack to the Showtime series Sleeper Cell, released Feb. 7 via Rhythmbank. Hendryx served as executive-producer of the album, as well as co-producer along with Grammy-nominated composer Paul Haslinger. "Half of the soundtrack is music I performed with Paul," says Hendryx. "The other half is music from the show." The disc also features music from Sufjan Stevens, Tricky, Faithless and Citizen Cope. A podcast interview with Hendryx and Haslinger about the soundtrack will be available later this month via the Rhythmbank web site, iTunes and Showtime's web site.

Amex Partners with Product RED to Fight AIDS

American Express announced a new partnership today with the UK's Product RED to help fund the fight against AIDS and malaria on the African continent. As part of the program, the financing giant has launched a new product, American Express Red, a credit card that will contribute 1% of everything spent with the card toward the humanitarian group the Global Fund. (Product RED is an initiative whose primary objective is to engage the private sector in the fight against AIDS in Africa by channelling funds from the sale of RED products directly to the Global Fund To Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.)

American Express RED will be the first credit card to meet the payment needs of a new and growing group of individuals it calls 'Conscience Consumers.' These are consumers who make decisions about the brands they purchase based on their social, ethical and environmental values. Companies whose products take on the RED mark have made a commitment to contribute a portion of profits from the sale of that product to the Global Fund to finance AIDS programs in Africa.

Besides Amex, current partners are Converse, Gap and Giorgio Armani. Launch partners will channel a portion of profits to the fund from selected 'Red-branded' goods -- including, respectively, T-shirts, wraparound sunglasses and training shoes made from African mudcloth. Rumors are circulating that Apple may join by offering its highly popular ipod in red.

The companies will roll out the Red brand in various markets at different stages, mainly targeting Britain at first, where Amex expects a market of some four million 'conscience consumers' by 2009. It will unveil its card in the UK in March.

Security Guard Killed At Busta Rhymes Video Shoot In Brooklyn

A man was shot to death early this morning (Feb. 5) near a video shoot for rapper Busta Rhymes in the Greepoint section of Brooklyn, N.Y. According to reports, Israel Ramirez was shot once in the chest, he was pronounced dead a short time later. Ramirez who was working as a bodyguard at Kiss the Cactus Productions, where the video for Rhymes' Touch It remix which was being filmed.

Police said 14 shots were fired from an AK-47 assault rifle outside the studio. Police are looking for a man they say gunned down a security guard at a video shoot. Rhymes was inside the studio at the time and was not injured and at deadline it is unclear whether the incident had any connection to the artist. Surveillance tapes are being analyzed for evidence.

Israel Ramirez, 29, a relatively new addition to the rappers' security detail, was shot once in the chest around midnight in front of 259 Green St. in Greenpoint, where up to 500 people, including several hip-hop artists, gathered for a filming of the rapper's hit single police and witnesses said.

Busta Rhymes, who was unhurt and may not have heard the gunfire, was filming footage inside the studio at the time, an employee of the studio said. The rapper left before he could be questioned.

Missy Elliott was at the studio, but also left before police could talk to her, police sources said. Those sources also confirmed that rappers 50 Cent and Lloyd Banks along with singer Mary J. Blige, who also raps on the single, had been expected in the studio, but it was unclear whether they were there at the time of the shooting.

A spokesperson for Busta Rhymes or his record company could not be reached.

Ramirez was standing outside the building, while recording took place in a ninth-floor sound-proof studio, police said.

The shooting occurred as a large group of people spilled out from the warehouse onto the street and several of them began arguing, police said. The origin of the dispute was not clear, but more than 10 shots were fired from at least one gun, police sources said.

"Everyone started hiding. People started running," said a studio grip, who declined to be identified, but said he was inside the studio and hid behind a scissor lift with 20 others. "It was a chain reaction; people just running everywhere."

Ramirez, of 200 W. 107th St. in Morningside Heights, was shot once in the chest and pronounced dead at Woodhull Hospital Center at 1:10 a.m., police said.

No one was arrested in the shooting, but police said they were looking for several people who were there to understand what happened.

Hours after the shooting, police recovered a small, silver handgun with a black grip about 100 feet across the street from the studio.

The business is part of a network of production studios in Brooklyn that operate under the name Broadway Stages. A woman who picked up the phone at the company's main office declined to comment.

A resident says it's been a long time since this neighborhood has seen this kind of violence.

"I've noticed that this neighborhood has changed over the last few years in terms of soundstages being developed and a new arts community thriving. We haven't heard of this kind of news since the 1980's when there was so much gang violence and street violence rampant in our community," he says.

"It's kind of disheartening to know that after so many decades, there is a looming threat of that kind of street violence once again emerging in this neighborhood."

No word yet on a motive for the shooting, or any possible suspects.

Not only is American Idol audtionee Rhonette Johnson is a HAM DELUXE, she is just DEAD WRONG. If you want to catch her while in NC here is a list of her upcoming court apperances.

Two months before the American Idol auditions rolled into Greensboro, North Carolina in October of 2005, Johnson was arrested in the Charlotte area. She was charged with DWI, driving with a revoked license, open container, and providing fictitious information to an officer which, given her rather dubious claim of being 5' 7" and 165 lbs, might account for the later charge.

Nearly two months after Simon, Paula, Randy, and Ryan left Greensboro, Rhonetta was arrested again. On November 26, 2005 she was charged with DWI and all the rest of the offenses previously listed and for good measure she added larceny, disorderly conduct, communicating threats, and resisting arrest into the mix. She also claimed to be two inches shorter (likely) and 30 lbs lighter (highly unlikely) than she was when arrested in August 2005. It's worth noting that she was also charged with providing fictitious information to an officer in the later arrest as well.

Since two DWI convictions are likely to leave Rhonetta with an impounded car and no chance at having a drivers license any time soon (which hasn't stopped her recently), she'll have to do a lot more street walking in the future.

One of her charges is for indecent exposure!

Jimmy Jam revealed that Janet's album is scheduled for an April release, and the first single will hit radio "in about a month."

Jimmy Jam promises that the set will boast a small tribute to Jackson's 1986 effort, Control. "It's a milestone year for us and for the collaboration," Jam tells Billboard.com. "It'll be 20 years since the release of Control, so there's definitely a little bit of a nod to that on the new album."

Some of the album was recorded at Jackson boyfriend Jermaine Dupri's studio. Dupri, who is president of Virgin Urban, is also executive producer of the album.
